The Soviet car GAZ-24 is considered one of the examples of reliability. Suffice it to say that at the best of times, such a car could easily cope even with the transportation of a dozen sacks of potatoes. It is hardly possible to load a modern crossover in this way, at least without serious consequences for an expensive car in the future. What is the problem with this "behavior" of modern machines?

In fact, the "problem" lies not in the quality of the assembly, not in the type of body, not in the quality of the used parts. The thing is that the overwhelming majority of modern cars are simply not originally designed to work with the mentioned loads. First of all, the suspension of modern cars is not designed for such a job. The fact is that many of the old cars used leaf spring suspension, while the current cars are mainly MacPherson strut.

But why not do it now as before? The thing is that before they tried to make automobile platforms that would be compatible, including with trucks and army vehicles. This made it possible to reduce the cost of production in the early stages, as well as to make it larger. The pay for this (in civilian models) was due to a much lower level of comfort compared to modern cars.

Thus, it turned out that the leaf spring suspension, designed for almost all types of cars, made the people's cars of the USSR incredibly hardy, although not very comfortable. Such a suspension could withstand a load of not only a dozen sacks of potatoes, but also any other load of about 3 tons. At the same time, do not forget that despite all the "wonderful" characteristics, the link suspension still has a resource. As a rule, it was 200 thousand km.

Also, do not forget that the leaf spring suspension is also much heavier. In Soviet cars, it added over 100 kg to the weight of the car. In addition, motorists had to pay for their high reliability and endurance with increased maintenance costs. Finally, such a car has a number of third-party restrictions, including maximum speed.
