In the domestic open spaces there are many difficult roads to travel, which are remembered, perhaps, by everyone who travels along them at least once. But one such path, which for many years was part of the Krasnopolyanskoe highway, was popularly nicknamed by the people as "Carry, Lord." And all because of its danger, despite which it has been actively exploited for more than a hundred years. True, the road was recently closed, but this did not make it less popular among fans of extreme tourism.

The construction of the highway to Krasnaya Polyana began in 1897. It was supposed to replace the horse road, which was the only route from the coast to the village of Krasnaya Polyana, but it was only accessible for six months a year due to the difficult terrain and weather conditions.

The construction of a new track was entrusted to the mining engineer Vasily Konstantinovich Konstantinov. Two years of hard work followed in conditions unsuitable for the construction of a highway, which were not without tragic episodes. Moreover, at the end of the century before last, the technologies that Konstantinov and his specialists had at their disposal were rather primitive. However, all these difficulties did not prevent in the end the creation of a unique road, which is still called a real engineering masterpiece today.

However, even after the completion of the construction, this road caused problems: according to the recollections of eyewitnesses, in the first decades of its existence, it was regularly repaired in different areas. During the Soviet period, they tried to modernize the highways, but in such difficult conditions it turned out with difficulty. The path was dangerous, but exciting, which is why it got the nickname "Carry, Lord" from the light hand of local residents.

An additional problem was the constant falling of small and medium stones on the roofs of cars passing along the road. That is why regular buses were equipped with special protective nets so that pieces of rock did not damage transport. Nevertheless, difficult conditions made it possible to build a wide enough road so that two cars could easily part ways, and one, in the absence of the other, was able to bypass, for example, piles of stones that were crumbling on the road.

Realizing the danger of the "Carry, Lord" segment, the authorities were looking for a way out: they straightened and widened the highway, built other crossings using more modern technologies. This issue became especially relevant when Sochi was chosen to host the 2014 Olympic Games. Therefore, when in 2005 a three-kilometer tunnel was opened in front of the village of Kepsha, the section of Krasnopolyanskoye highway with the telling nickname was closed.

Today, they try not to let visitors there because of the inadequate condition of the highway and the constant danger of stones falling from above. However, there are enthusiasts and lovers of extreme tourism who dare to overcome the difficult, but very picturesque path on bicycles.
