Shortly before the Soviet Union ceased to exist, domestic designers released a car that collected an incredible number of nicknames: "cab from KAMAZ", "mad stool", "shrimp", "half an hour of shame" and many others. Despite the fact that most of the popular names for this car were joking at best, domestic drivers fell in love with the car. Why did you like the famous "Oka" so much?

The front-wheel drive car of the small class "Oka" turned out to be a bit strange and, on the whole, ambiguous. However, despite a wide list of questions both to the car and to its designers, our compatriots fell in love with the car. And there were very specific, rational reasons for that. After all, along with the shortcomings, the "Oka" had its advantages.

1. Small dimensions

Very little
Very little

The car was very small, which made it incredibly easy to use, especially in urban areas. The most important advantage of "Oka" was that during parking this car could be "squeezed" into almost any place. The car could have become the founder of a whole galaxy of domestic compact cars for the city, if its release had not been curtailed in 2008, having abandoned the development of the series.

2. Simplicity of design

There is almost nothing to break in the car
There is almost nothing to break in the car

Anything complicated is unnecessary. This motto was followed not only by the Soviet military-industrial complex, but also by the automobile industry. From the point of view of technology, "Oka" is so simple that there is almost nothing to break in it. And most importantly, even an enthusiast can fix a car. Most of the breakdowns that appeared in the Oka were successfully removed by the efforts of the men from the yard.

3. Cost effective

Doesn't consume much

You can complain as much as you like about the actually third-rate characteristics of the car. But from this huge minus a no less representative plus naturally followed. The fact is that "Oka" was one of the most economical domestic cars. And at once in all directions, starting from the price tag and ending with fuel consumption.

4. Spaciousness

Ideal for travel
Ideal for travel

Does the car look small? Yes, it is really very small. But at the same time, there is a lot of free space in it for transporting a variety of useful things and goods. "Oka" easily allows a family of three to travel, and at the same time, you can load the car in the appendage with a representative amount of luggage.

5. Permeability

He is not afraid of rural roads

Finally, we must remember that the car had a fairly good cross-country ability. Of course, storming off-road terrain on the Oka is not the best idea. However, the Soviet car copes with rural roads with a bang. In addition, you need to try very hard that the Oka is really stuck somewhere.
