Everyone who has made a fire at least once knows very well how much smoke will come from it in the near future. I wonder how the scouts made fire during the war, who could not give out their location? Maybe they did without fire at all? In fact, no, because there is a special military technique of a smokeless fire.

Digging a hole

Note: To create a scout's bonfire, you need some tool, namely a large knife or a sapper shovel. Needless to say, you will also need what we will use to build the fire - matches or a lighter.

So, it all starts with the preparation of a plot of land with an area of 40x70 cm. It needs to be cleaned of moss, leaves and turf. After that, a hole with a diameter of about 30 cm is dug. It will be our combustion chamber. If the ground is very hard, then it is recommended to soften it first with blows of a knife or a spatula, and only then start digging. All the roots that come across along the way will have to be cut and discarded. The depth of the combustion chamber is about 50 cm. At the same time, after deepening by 10 cm, the hole must be expanded so that it turns out to be in the shape of a pear - narrow at the top and wide at the bottom.

When the first hole is ready, we retreat from it in the direction of 35-40 cm and dig another one. They should be connected by a tunnel so that the second pit goes straight to the bottom of our "pear". If you dig out the ventilation incorrectly, then the fire will burn much worse, and there will be an order of magnitude more smoke. That's actually the whole technique.

Important: It is also worth remembering the correct choice of fuel. You should not take conifers for the scout's fire. Because of the resin, they give off too much smoke. It is best to choose alder or birch. Aspen is also not recommended - it gives off a high flame and a lot of sparks.
