The time is not far off when any piece of furniture can be made at home by pressing only one button. How is this possible, and what does the furniture of the future look like? In our review, 5 of the most unusual ideas that surprise and fascinate.
Comfort armchair with sponge structure

No matter how unusual furniture is made, it should be comfortable. This is what the designer thinks Lilian van Daal from Holland. She carefully studied new technologies for 3D printing production, and in the process came up with a rather unusual chair. It claims to be the most comfortable in the world. This is because this piece of furniture is able to take the shape of the human body.

Lillian drew inspiration from the wild, observing marine life with a spongy structure. Hence such an original design was born. Despite the fact that the multi-layer chair seems fragile in appearance, it is quite sturdy.

A living chair that keeps growing

It seems incredible, but today furniture is even made from living organisms. How is this possible? A Dutch scientist answered this question with his invention Eric Klarenbeek … He created a chair that was designed using organic materials: straw, water and mushroom mycelium.

The vegetative part of the mushrooms has become the main component for making the chair. Their fibers are similar to branches and they often create incredible patterns. The most interesting thing is that after printing the eco-chair, the vegetative body of the mushrooms continued to grow.

To preserve the unusual design of the item, it was covered with bioplastic. In some places, the chair was decorated with whole myceliums to emphasize the nature of the material that formed the basis of the product. Manufacturers assure that it is quite comfortable to sit on such a chair.

Bronze furniture of bizarre shapes

In modern conditions, a 3D printer is a real weapon in the hands of skilled designers, which is capable of striking the very heart with its impeccability. A vivid example of this, bronze furniture of bizarre shapes from a French company Ventury paris … Products literally catch the eye and charm. The collection is printed on a stereolithographic 3D printer and cast in bronze.

Head and owner of a furniture company Emmanuel Tureyn, himself participates in the creation of exclusive furniture. For example, he came up with the original Eiffel chairs, reminiscent of the famous Paris Tower. Emmanuel believes that it would be impossible to create such complex structures without 3D printing. Ventury Paris products are designed to bring any space to life.

New generation furniture

At first glance, it seems that this is an antique carved console, repainted in a bright shade. But in fact, this piece of furniture art is 3D printed. Such an effect a German company BigRep achieved thanks to a unique invention: a large printer BigRep One … It can be used to print textured furniture of increased complexity.

As raw materials, the developers use nylon, plastic and a special material with sawdust so that the product does not externally differ from a wooden interior item.
Stool as an art object

How can a simple piece of furniture, for example, a stool, be turned into an interesting 3D object? Israeli engineer Andrey Grishko found an original way to make ordinary furniture creative. The idea was realized thanks to a modified 3D printer circuit.
The device, which the engineer invented, weaves with fiberglass threads. The thread is preliminarily passed through a glass filled with dye and glue. True, using this method it is impossible to make two absolutely identical objects. The inventor considers this a plus, since each piece has a unique design.
3D printing opens up new possibilities in the field of design, makes ordinary interior items very laconic and incredibly attractive. Evidence of this See our roundup of 3D printed multi-colored sun loungers.
