
Traditionally, monuments are erected in memory of significant events, historical figures, or in honor of deities. Among the huge variety of sculptures, there are so huge that next to them you simply freeze in amazement and fully realize the frailty of life.
1. Marilyn Monroe
USA
Chinese artists spent two years creating an 8-meter giant sculpture of the famous Marilyn Monroe scene from the 1951 film The Seven Year Itch. The statue has been shown in several locations in the United States as well as Australia.
2. Buddha in Leshan

China
The 71 meter high stone Buddha statue in Leshan was created during the Tang Dynasty. It is carved into a rock in Lingyunshan Mountain at the intersection of 3 rivers in the Chinese province of Sichuan, near the city of Leshan. Besides being a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is also the largest stone Buddha in the world. The statue was built with incredible detail.
3. Mevlan Rumi

Turkey
The height of the statue of Mevlana Rumi (Muslim poet of the 13th century, lawyer, Islamic scholar, theologian and Sufi mystic) is 20 meters, including its base. This amazing statue was designed and built by sculptor Eri Okkan.
4. "Mansu Hill"
North Korea
The central part of the monument is two tall statues of North Korean leaders Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il, made of bronze. Initially, there was only one 22-meter statue on this site - Kim Il Sung, covered with gold, but later gold was replaced with bronze. The statue of the god Murugan is located at the entrance to Batu Cave in Selangor, Malaysia. Made from 250 tons of steel and 300 liters of gold paint, the 43-meter sculpture is considered the second tallest statue of a Hindu deity in the world. It is also the tallest statue in Malaysia.

The 49-meter African Renaissance Monument was built overlooking the Atlantic Ocean in the suburbs of the Senegalese capital Dakar. The giant statue depicts a man holding a child in his left hand and a woman. It took four years to build this $ 27 million monument. This is the tallest statue in Africa.

Chautaji Buddha is a giant statue (over 66 meters long) of the reclining Buddha located in a temple in Yangon, Myanmar. Due to its enormous size, the statue is one of the largest in Burma (Myanmar). It was consecrated in 1973.
15. Ganesha

Thailand
This bright pink statue is one of the largest Ganesha statues in the world. The dimensions of the giant statue of the beloved Hindu god are 15.8 meters high and 23.8 meters wide. It is located in the Chachoengsao province in Thailand.
16. "The Motherland Calls"
Russia
"The Motherland Calls" is considered a difficult feat of engineering because of its shape: in her right hand held high, she holds a sword, and her left hand is extended in a defiant gesture. At the time of its construction in 1967, it was the tallest statue in the world (85 meters). Today it is the tallest statue in Europe and the tallest statue of a woman in the world. It weighs over 7,900 tons.

19. Kuan Yin

China

20. Lezhun-Sasaja Buddha

More than 116 meters high, Lezhong Sasazha is the second tallest statue in the world. The statue depicting Gautama Buddha is built on top of Po Kaung Hill. It took about 12 years to create it. At the foot of the statue is the largest reclining Buddha in the world (point 7 - Chautaji Buddha).
