Debunking myths about supposedly healthy dishes

Sometimes, while watching a video interview of an eminent specialist in a serious TV program, we may be seriously surprised to hear that the dishes that our mothers and grandmothers (and not only!) Presented to us as the most useful, are in fact extremely harmful for the body. This article will debunk 5 popular myths about supposedly the healthiest dishes.

1. Soup with meat and pasta / potatoes

The editors of Novate. Ru are aware that those over 30, as well as many of the stronger sex, who do not know the way to gyms, will hotly refuse to classify soup with meat and potatoes as unhealthy dishes. But, unfortunately, the process of simultaneous cooking of meat (protein foods) and potatoes or pasta (fast carbohydrates + starch + flour) turns the famous "grandma's hearty soup" into a huge portion of a liquid hamburger. This soup is not much different from cooked dumplings. Its use leads to bloating and constipation.

No matter how painful it will be to realize it, the appearance of soup on meat with potatoes (later also with pasta) is a purely Soviet phenomenon and it was associated with hunger times during the Great Patriotic War and after it. There was little food, so the wives and mothers of the pre-, post- and soldier generations tried to make the most satisfying dish out of the available products in order to satisfy the family's breadwinners. This is how this frighteningly harmful soup came about.

Correct soups
Correct soups

The unspoken rule of all worthy cooks is the doctrine: soup should be either meat or vegetables … The correct variations are broths (only meat, adding a whole onion is permissible for taste, but not for eating), vegetable soups (only vegetables, in which case potatoes are permissible), mashed soups (potato, mushroom with the addition of dairy products, onions, etc. etc.). As a last resort, you can cook chicken fillet soup and frozen vegetable mix without potatoes - this will be a relatively dietary option for the whole family.

2. Minced meat cutlets with the addition of bread

Minced meat with the addition of baked goods is another child of the post-war times, when breadwinners needed to be fed better. It is very strange that everyone recognizes the harmfulness of a hamburger, but they refuse to recognize a cutlet fried in a pan from a mixture that includes 20-30% of a roll and 70-80% of meat as a twin of a hamburger.

In addition to meat, it is permissible to add raw onions and spices to the minced meat to taste. There shouldn't be anything else in the minced meat. Otherwise, the cutlet will turn into a hot dog or sandwich. Frying in vegetable oil in a frying pan is already quite a "carcinogenic process". The situation should not be aggravated by the addition of baked goods.

3. Packaged juices

In our opinion, the myth of the benefits of packaged juices lingered in the 21st century. When mothers and grandmothers in the supermarket tell their children something like "Don't take these harmful chips, we'd better take a box of juice!", the authors of Novate. Ru have a serious doubt that chips are more harmful than packaged juice. After all, given the amount of sugar added to such juices as a natural cheap preservative, we can safely say that drinking a glass of juice from a bag is equivalent to ingesting 4-5 teaspoons of white granulated sugar inside. But it doesn't crunch!

Only freshly squeezed juices are useful!
Only freshly squeezed juices are useful!

The only healthy juice variation is freshly squeezed (using a manual or automatic juicer) or fresh juice. But it should be borne in mind that fresh fruits and vegetables will never replace fresh fruits and vegetables in their benefits, since the juice contains vitamins, but there are no solid fiber fibers, which are extremely important for human digestion. Freshly squeezed juices can be one serving per day, but there should be 2-3 more servings of raw fruits and vegetables per day.

4. Porridge with milk

Yes, yes, you will not believe, but again our grandmothers and post-war times. By themselves, cereals are digestible carbohydrates, therefore they are useful and nutritious. But if you cook them with the addition of dairy products, then instead of benefit we get an overdose of gluten and natural gluten, and the result will be indigestion, constipation and gastritis.

Boiling in milk destroys all the benefits of cereals

Cooking in milk destroys all the beneficial properties of cereals. This process can be compared with boiling water: clean drinking water is useful, boiled water is useless and dead, only suitable for drinking pills. The same happens with cereals. Thus, a healthy option for breakfast porridge is non-boiling rolled oats filled with boiling water. An even more useful option is raw oatmeal drenched in kefir. The neutral option is porridge cooked only in water (salt can be added to taste).

5. Herring under a fur coat

This dish is a favorite of many during grand feasts and celebrations (for example, New Year's or birthday). Do you know how it came about? In the post-revolutionary taverns of 1918, the following problem arose: how to feed the proletariat, which orders too much vodka and quickly gets drunk? This dish was used as an ultra-satisfying snack that helped to get home breadwinners of the families of the proletariat on foot. The salad was generously flavored with French mayonnaise sauce (either as a sign of respect for the creators of the Great French bourgeois revolution, or, on the contrary, as a reminder of the external enemy of the Bolsheviks, the Entente, which included France). The name of the dish was appropriate: "Chauvinism and Decline - Boycott and Anathema", and in abbreviated form - "Sh. U. B. A."

If you really like the combination of boiled beetroot and herring flavors, then consume these two products in their pure form (together, but separately), without adding mayonnaise and boiled potatoes to this ensemble, to prevent ending up in the gastroenterology department of the local hospital.
