Armor and chain mail for a modern person are remnants of the era of the knights of the Middle Ages, so not everyone knows a lot about what they are in general. So, for example, for many years there has been an opinion that chain mail is quite light in weight and easy to use. But not everyone knows that this theory is absolutely not true.
Most people only know about chain mail that they take their name from the way they are made - by tying metal rings of different sizes together. But in the literature you can find many references to the fact that its weight is very small, and wearing it did not cause any particular problems for a medieval warrior. However, in reality this was not entirely true.
In fact, the weight of the chain mail was not so insignificant: it weighed from 8 to 12 kilograms, depending on the size and thickness of the rings, as well as the type of weaving. Light chain mail did not exist at all, unless they were combat.
The same misconception is the opinion that wearing chain mail was not a problem for a knight. In reality, putting it on was not very difficult, but taking it off due to the weight turned out to be very problematic. For this, by analogy with armor, outside help was required.
It is interesting that this myth has been secretly spreading through cinema and literature for more than a decade. In films and TV series about the Middle Ages, chain mail will certainly be present, but such a careless attitude to their exploitation does not correspond to reality.
Also irrelevant to reality is that the cinematic knights often and without difficulty put on chain mail over a light shirt. In fact, under the replacement of armor there was necessarily a quilted or leather jacket, which was designed to soften the stabbing blows, because chain mail simply did not save them from them.
