There are many cars in the world that have become famous thanks to cinema. The brightest representative of gaining such fame is, of course, the famous DeLorean DMC-12, which was produced for only two years and managed to “light up” in the famous film “Back to the Future”. As a rule, this car makes an indelible impression even on those who, in fact, are rather apathetic about vehicles of any kind. And this is not surprising. After all, so many "peculiar" and "interesting" are unlikely to be found in at least one more car. Let's take a closer look at the DMC-12.
The first thing that, when looking at the DeLorean DMC-12, will catch the eye of any attentive person is that the front wheel of this car is significantly smaller than the rear one. It is impossible to use the front "spare" for the rear wheels. It works (of course) in both directions. The next notable thing is the location of the gas cap. If you don't know right away where it is, you can spend a lot of time looking. And there is a tank in the trunk, which in turn can be found in the front of the car under the hood.
Equally interesting is that the DeLorean DMC-12 was one of the few cars produced unpainted. This is because the body of the "car from the future" was simply polished to a shine. Of course, you could always paint the car yourself, but it was not possible to order a DeLorean in your favorite color at the factory.
Interesting fact: DMC-12 bumpers are made of soft polyurethane. Thus, they were not afraid of blows at speeds up to 8 km / h.
The doors in this car are a work of art. And it's not just that they belong to the "seagulls" class. There are a lot of interesting things in DeLorean doors: a knob at the knee level, numerous lighting around the perimeter, so that the outline of the door is visible in the dark. The most interesting thing about it is the presence of a special notch above the head. It was made to prevent large drivers from bumping when closing the car.
Interesting fact: The car door is very complicated from a technical point of view. Due to the installation of one of the air conditioner deflectors in it, it is impossible to lower the glass to the end. We solved this problem by dividing the glass in two. Each has its own electric drive.
The DeLorean DMC-12 salon corresponds to the "luxury" class. At one time, only leather trim was available in the car. It is unlikely that it will be possible to call the salon spacious, however, when you find yourself inside, you realize that there is much more space here than it seemed at first. True, the hand brake is in a completely unusual place - it is between the door and the driver's seat on the left side.
Unfortunately, the build quality of the car in 1982 left a lot to be desired. Numerous complications have made the DMC-12 very expensive. Instead of the planned 12 thousand dollars per unit, the car cost all 25 thousand. All this put an end to the most interesting project in three years.
