Take a box of ordinary matches. Stick two to four matches into the soil (head down) about 5 cm from the edge of the flowerpot. Water and care for the plant as usual.
After two days, carefully remove the matches from the ground and examine them. Has the sulfur dissolved? Fine! Replace old matches with fresh ones. After about 3-4 changes, the midges will disappear. And all because the soil will be saturated with sulfur and make the vegetation "not appetizing" for midges.
