In the past few years, drones have been gaining ground in the delivery space. For example, in New Zealand, a popular pizza restaurant began using aircraft to deliver its products.
How long does it take for pizza delivery? An hour, half, maybe a quarter? Delivering delicious pizza is an adventure. In timely megacities, pizza may not be expected at all, because the transport infrastructure is often heavily overloaded. Fortunately, in the XXI century, an optimal solution was found for this problem, and they became flying multicopters, private drones that can not only take photos and videos from a bird's eye view, but, as it turned out, deliver parcels!
In all fairness, similar initiatives are being tested today in many countries around the world. Somewhere drones are used to deliver mail, somewhere for medical purposes, but in New Zealand, the pizza restaurant chain Domino's decided to use private UAVs to deliver their products. It turned out very well.
In fact, Domino's first started talking about pizza delivery using drones back in 2013, but until recently, it somehow did not go well. And so, not so long ago, the drone was able to deliver the first batches of pizza. The delivery method is certainly exotic, but it is in no way inferior in speed to traditional couriers. The company representatives even claim that such delivery is cheaper!
For transportation, different models of quadrocopters are used that are capable of lifting at least 25 kg of load. They all support GPS technology. At the moment, Domino's is working on the creation of an automatic control algorithm for the UAV. In the meantime, the aircrafts are sent by the good old operators. A curious detail is that the drones do not need to land to deliver the pizza to the customer. Each of them is equipped with a special winch system.
