A situation may arise that you need to cut a thread on the water pipe. This is actually not difficult at all. Expensive and rare tools are not needed to complete this task, and the procedure itself is not very complicated, so even a beginner can cope with it if he has even the slightest idea of the workflow.
What is needed
In order to cut a thread on a pipe, not so many things are needed. First of all, this is a die for the required pipe diameter. We will also need an adjustable (gas) wrench. That is actually all that is needed, except for desire and hands.
It is only necessary to remind that the die-cutter is a threading tool in which the nozzle has a guide skirt. You can purchase it at a plumbing store. There is no shortage of such an instrument. It costs around 200-500 Russian rubles. Running models are designed for 1/2 and 3/4 inches.
The working process
Lubricate the place on the pipe where the thread will be. For this we use engine oil, grease or lithol. We coat the cutters on the pipe. You don't need to apply a lot of lubricant. Old paint can be left on.
Now we put on the klupp guide on the pipe. There is a special tool for work - a ratchet, but since in our case the work (most likely) will be a one-time job, it will be extremely unprofitable to purchase a special tool. Adjust the adjustable wrench to fit the rear skirt of the klupp. After that, we make a few careful turns so that the incisors appear. If the pipe is flimsy, you can hold it with a second wrench.
The cutting sequence is as follows: 2-3 forward turns of the die, 1 turn back. If technology is neglected, there is a risk that the chips will clog the threads. In total, you need to make 4-5 full turns.
