Glass heating filaments are one of the most important elements ensuring the convenience and safety of driving. These threads are not the most fragile and delicate element of the machine's construction, but even they fail and "break". Once in such a situation, the driver has no choice but to do the restoration. This can be done by contacting specialists for help or on your own.

How does this thing work? It's actually very simple. Heating filaments are made of conductive material. When the heating is turned on, a current of 10-25A flows through each thread. This is enough to heat the glass and keep it from freezing during the cold season. The main problem is that during the operation of the vehicle, the filaments become unusable. A variety of things can happen to them: breakage, oxidation, deformation. It is not difficult to find out about the appearance of problems with the glass heating system, especially when the temperature outside the window drops below zero.

All defects in the filament of the glass heating system can be divided into two large groups: physical and chemical. Physical defects are direct breaks with a violation of the integrity of the structure. It is not difficult to identify such. Most often, three things are enough for this: a magnifying glass, free time, and patience. We just go through each strand and check for breaks. Chemical defects are thread burnouts. Most often, oxidation occurs in a small area. It is most likely that you will not be able to identify this with your eyesight. We'll have to connect a voltmeter to the case. With its help, the resistance of each section is checked when the heating is on.

There are two ways to check. First, in ohmmeter mode, turn on the heating and run the probe along the entire length of each thread. Where there is a jump in resistance, and there is an open circuit. The second method - in the voltmeter mode, we measure the voltage indicators by setting one probe to the plus (heating thread), and the second to ground. Where the voltage drops or starts jumping, there is an open circuit.

Upon detection of all kinds of defects, the matter remains small - to restore the advance section of the glass heating thread. This can be done in the "folk" and store-bought way. For the first, you need to prepare the material to create a handicraft thread. It is made from superglue and pencil lead. It turns out not too elegant, but cheap and cheerful. The store method boils down to buying a special repair kit with a ready-made thread fragment and a tool for applying it. Such a set costs about 1 thousand rubles. Not cheap, but the glass will look like it was from the factory yesterday!
