This time she took on the refining of the basic model of the IKEA TARVA dresser. This model is made entirely of natural wood, so the work did not involve the purchase of special tools or paints and varnishes. And the very process of turning an ordinary wooden blank into an original designer chest of drawers did not take much time and effort.
Considering that all furniture from Ikea is delivered disassembled, the chest of drawers must be assembled following the sequence indicated in the instructions. Since the creative hostess wanted to give the furniture a more sophisticated look, she decided to replace the legs and ordered them separately along with the mount. But this made some adjustments to the assembly of the bottom of the chest.
In order to close the bottom contour with the miter saw, Erin cut off the excess material and the legs were now flush with the edging. After that, she thoroughly secured the selected legs.
In order for the chest of drawers to stand securely, an additional leg was provided in the kit itself, which is installed in the center of the bottom. It had to be adjusted in height, since the new legs were 2 cm shorter.
These are not all the changes to the model that were planned to be made. Erin decided to change the handles that came with the kit, so the holes provided for their installation had to be putty.
When all the adjustments were made and the extra holes were hidden behind the dried putty, the girl thoroughly polished the entire structure. For these purposes, she used ordinary fine-grain abrasive paper.
After all the dust had been thoroughly removed, the primer treatment could begin.
Important! Priming is an obligatory process, because only in this case the paint will lie in an even layer. When the primer is well dry, you can open it with paint.
Erin decided to make her masterpiece in a light gray color so that the chest of drawers would organically fit into the interior of the bedroom.
When the paint was dry, Erin began to design the dresser. For these purposes, the girl chose white textured decorative overlays. She selected them according to the size of the facades, and then planted them on glue.
Advice: When handling glue, wear gloves and open windows to prevent fumes from harming your health.
For a period of complete drying, the girl fixed them on the linings with the help of masking tape, which, when removed, will not leave a sticky mark.
After all the components of the chest of drawers took their place, Erin decided to install the handles, but they did not allow the drawers to close tightly. Therefore, I had to make a small indentation in the place where the fittings were to be fixed. For these purposes, she used a grinding machine with a special attachment. After finishing the work, this drank had to be properly sanded so that the handle would fit tightly. When the fittings were secured, and the drawers were in their cells, the original chest of drawers took its place.
A few touches in the form of a wicker box and an original cactus vase that Erin made herself, as well as a couple of table lamps, helped to complete the design.
