The Soviet car GAZ-24 "Volga" is a truly legendary car. An incredible number of interesting and rare modifications were created on the basis of this car. Some of them never fell into the hands of Soviet citizens. Some because (unfortunately) remained concepts, others because they were highly specialized, special machines for certain events or services of the USSR.
1. Machine for parades

A convertible is not the most popular thing in the Soviet Union. However, it was these cars that were widely used by the military during parades. This GAZ-24 model never entered mass production. The car was produced in a limited edition. Some of the doors were sealed, and there were handrails in the cabin.
2. GAZ-24-02

A prototype of a station wagon based on the GAZ-24. The car appeared in 1969. It is thanks to this model that in 1972 a machine known throughout the Soviet Union will be released. By the way, the concept model did not have the famous ridge on the roof.
3. GAZ-24-95

Four-wheel drive "Volga" for off-road and bad roads, created using UAZ components and assemblies. The ground clearance of the model was 285 mm. Very few of them were created. The car never went into production. One of the 95s, according to Novate.ru, was presented to the General Secretary - Brezhnev. He wanted a similar car for driving on hunting.
4. "Olympic"

Modification of the GAZ-24 for the 1980 Olympics. A model with an unusual color was created as an escort vehicle for the Olympic flame. Some cars also received flashing beacons. The car did not undergo major changes under the hood, although it received (for example) an elongated radiator.
5. GAZ 24-78

The van based on the GAZ-22 also did not become serial, although it subsequently received a continuation model. The car could carry an unimaginable load for its class and dimensions - 500 kg! It is a pity that she remained a prototype. It would definitely be the most prestigious Soviet truck.
6. Pickup

At one time, on the basis of the GAZ-24 in the USSR, they even tried to make a pickup. True, the model did not take root at all. It should be noted that such a truck looks quite cute. The prototype was developed in the Riga ROMZ. By the way, this is far from the only unit that tried to make pickups based on GAZs in Soviet times.
7. GAZ-24 Tamro

The Finnish company Tamro from Tampere took Soviet ambulance vehicles GAZ-24 and made such cool ambulances out of them. There were not many such machines created, despite the fact that the model came out very successful.
And also: "Escort"

A special model of the GAZ-24 car, which was produced in a limited series for servicing the country's airports. Such cars even drove along the runway (if required), accompanied by planes and other special vehicles.
