The desire to embody the interior from the picture in your apartment sometimes becomes overwhelming. However, it is not in vain that they say: "All that glitters is not gold." When the repair is over, the owners grab their heads, because the things that looked very stylish in the photographs turn out to be absolutely unsuitable in everyday life. Novate.ru tells in more detail what design solutions cause discomfort.
1. Carpets with long pile

Many people dream of laying a fluffy carpet near the fireplace and sitting there with a cup of aromatic coffee on cold winter evenings. Or just add such a product to the interior of the room to make it more comfortable. In any case, no matter what you are guided by when choosing a carpet, try to avoid models with a long pile. Such specimens collect more dust and have to be removed much more often. Plus, the fluffy carpet will definitely become your pet's favorite spot, which will only increase the number of cleanings. We must not forget that over time, the threads of the carpet roll down and lose their original appearance. You can improve the condition of the pile with a vacuum cleaner, but the effect will be short-lived.
2. Doors in all rooms

Previously, the presence of swing doors in each room was considered mandatory, but now this tradition can be completely abandoned. The fact is that they are very uncomfortable, as they "eat up" a whole corner of the room. And if the apartment is small and every square meter is worth its weight in gold, then swing doors will be completely inappropriate. It is clear that you cannot do without them in the bedroom and in the bathroom, but they are not vital in the living room and in the kitchen. You can use a budget alternative and hang a fabric or cotton curtain. Or approach the issue from a practical point of view and give preference to a book-door.
3. Glass table

This piece of furniture is often advised to buy by designers, arguing that the glass table looks much lighter, does not clutter up the space and visually takes up less space. These statements are indeed true, but we must not forget about the other side of the coin. In particular, stains constantly remain on the glass surface; it is not enough to wipe it with an ordinary damp cloth to put it in order. Sometimes it seems that the table is in perfect condition, but as soon as you look at it from a different angle or when the chandelier is lit, the stains immediately become noticeable.
Chips and scuffs also cannot be avoided. Even if you put napkins on the table under the plates, scratches will still appear, which will make the table look untidy. Such furniture may well be placed in the dining room and used exclusively on holidays or during a visit of guests, but it is not suitable for daily use.
There are a few more downsides. Since the front bar of the table is also glass, you have to constantly think about the state of your legs, which is not very convenient. Furniture is far from as quiet as its wooden counterparts, and due to exposure to high temperatures or mechanical damage, it can suddenly fly apart into small fragments.
4. Extra long curtains

Another advice from designers is to hang elongated curtains that visually raise the ceiling, create the effect of subtle negligence due to the beautiful volume of the fabric, and also allow you to hide the unevenness of the floor and the irregular shape of the windows. Sounds great, however, when it comes to practical use, it gets frustrating. Long curtains get dirty quickly, require frequent washing, especially if cats or dogs live in apartments. They will also be inappropriate in rooms where the furniture is close to the window, since in this case all their positive properties are nullified.
5. Sink by the window

Many people think that washing the dishes while admiring the view outside the window is a great idea. Alas, this is not the case. Splashes constantly fall on the window and after a mountain of dishes, you also have to put the glass in order. In addition, most people hide a trash can under the sink, and there is usually a battery under the window, which provokes the appearance of not very pleasant smells. And the question of washing the window also remains open - how to clean it, especially from the outside? Get in the sink?
6. White furniture

Furniture, furnishings and white interior items always look beautiful, fresh and festive. Alas, they are not particularly practical. At first, you will be delighted with the repair, and then you will have to think about how to put the furniture in order, because it is not always possible to cope on your own, without dry cleaning services.
Instead of white interior items, look for a deep blue or dark green color scheme. It will create a clean and cool atmosphere and will not require frequent and expensive cleaning. By the way, the white interior often looks dull and boring, but the design with bright accents looks stylish and interesting.
7. Artificial stone sink

Unlike classic stainless steel, this sink looks much more aesthetically pleasing and more beautiful. In addition, it is more spacious and absorbs the sounds of pouring water, which can sometimes be very annoying. But in leaving, this option is not the easiest. Plus, a sink made of artificial stone is afraid of heavy objects and sudden temperature changes - the owners often leave reviews about the sink bottom that has failed.
8. Walls covered with slate paint

Nowadays it is very fashionable to paint the walls with slate paint, especially in the kitchen or in the dining area. Looks very fresh, original, can be used to write recipes or pleasant wishes. But when you actively draw and erase your own writing, a huge amount of dust appears on the floor, which later spreads throughout the apartment. And if you want to update the interior of the room, another problem will emerge - slate paint is very difficult to cover with a different color. By the way, this applies to any dark color, so the tendency to paint one wall of a room in a contrasting color gradually fades away.
9. Glass partition in the bathroom

Another design solution that looks cool but not very useful to use. If the partition is not properly maintained, fungus and mold will form on it over time, which will be very difficult to eliminate. This product is also difficult to care for - about the same problems arise as with a glass table. You will not use special products for cleaning, the surface will always be cloudy and streaked. So it turns out that at first the owners are delighted with the partition, and then, when faced with dampness, moldy spots, they decide to hang up an ordinary curtain, with which there are much fewer problems - I washed it and forgot.
10. Freestanding bathtub

This plumbing is not for nothing that belongs to the category of elite - it requires a lot of space and appropriate entourage. It should be noted right away that you cannot swim while standing in such bathtubs - only lying or sitting. And if you want to take a shower, you will have to use a circular curtain so as not to flood the entire floor in the room with water. Another option is to additionally install a shower stall, but this is an additional cost, plus you need to find a place for it.
