It is difficult to tune in to renovation, but if you have already done it, try to make everything perfect so that after a few months you do not have to redo it. Novate.ru talks about the most common mistakes in apartment design, which not only spoil the visual component of the interior, but also make it less functional and comfortable.

Mistake 1: High ceilings to the detriment of sound insulation

Many people dream of high ceilings that will not "crush" and take away the feeling of comfort from the rooms. That is why, during the repair, together with the screed, the backfill under it is also removed, increasing the overall height of the room. However, such a decision is a big mistake, because the backfill performs a soundproof function. Without it, the apartment will be very noisy, especially if a family with small children or people who like to sing in karaoke and have parties live on top.

There are two options for solving the problem: either you leave the backfill under the screed, or you compensate for its loss. In the second case, you can use expanded clay, which is filled with cement milk (but then you will need to raise the floor), or give preference to the Shumanet material with waterproofing properties. Do not forget about the sound insulation of the walls - for them it is better to choose rubber-based roll materials.

Mistake 2: Few sockets

Two outlets are not enough in the kitchen
Two outlets are not enough in the kitchen

This error is one of the most common. Many apartment owners sincerely believe that a couple of sockets are enough for one room, because "what can be included there?" Now let's count. Take the living room, for example. Here you need to connect a TV, router, air conditioner, computer, leave one or two sockets next to the sofa to charge phones. And this is not the whole list. No wonder the designers joke that the sockets in the apartment should be +100500, because each person has a huge number of gadgets and electrical appliances in use.

As for the location of sockets and switches, everyone has long gone from Soviet standards and knows about ergonomic heights. There is only one caveat, but it concerns bathrooms and wet rooms: the sockets that are planned in the area close to the washbasin should be placed above the level of the countertop and sink at a height of 1100-1300 mm. You should also provide a protective curtain that protects against splashes and accidental water ingress.

Note: Since many devices are charged from USB, in the bedside area, as well as in places where you usually put gadgets on charging, you should provide sockets with USB outputs - this is very convenient and practical.

Mistake 3: Corner cabinets in the kitchen

Corner cabinets are inconvenient to use

It is believed that the beveled corner sections of the upper cabinets in the kitchen are very convenient and create more storage space. Firstly, they look ugly and stand out from any interior style, even if you have chosen universal Scandinavian or minimalism. Secondly, such cabinets "eat up" the functional corner space and cause discomfort during their use, especially if there is a sink below.

For the competent use of the corners in the kitchen, you can install roll-out systems in the lower sections of the cabinets, which are also called magic corners. As for the top row, only the headset that adjoins the wall at a right angle should be hung there. By the way, for convenience, you can also equip roll-out systems or a tray rotating around its axis in such lockers.

Mistake 4: slippery tiles

Such flooring can be a real nightmare and a source of injury, especially if you put it in a bathroom, where water constantly gets on the tiles. Of course, you can buy a rubber mat or apply a special anti-slip agent. However, why these additional complications, if you can initially choose a tile that does not slide?

Be sure to pay attention to the marks provided on the building materials - there will be a corresponding icon on the tiles with an anti-slip surface. Also, keep in mind that a smooth surface will still be slippery after getting wet, so use tiles with a rough texture to decorate the bathroom and work area in the kitchen.

Mistake 5: Small inspection hatch

No matter how much you want to completely close the pipes and other communications in the bathroom and in the kitchen, this is absolutely impossible to do. It is necessary to provide a hatch not only in order to be able to check the meter readings, but also to carry out repairs in the event of a breakdown. The size of the inspection hatch will depend directly on what is behind it. If there is a boiler in the plumbing cabinet, the area of the hole must allow replacement, if necessary, otherwise you will have to disassemble the wall. Also, do not forget about possible leaks - in this case, you should leave yourself access to a quick shutdown of the water in the pipes.

From an aesthetic point of view, it is best to make an inspection hatch with a hidden mechanism - in this case it will be completely invisible. However, if the budget is very limited, you can do with a cabinet with hinged doors, in which you will hide all available communications.

Mistake 6: No room for dishwashers and tumble dryers

In one case, space was left for the dryer, and in the other, no
In one case, space was left for the dryer, and in the other, no

If you plan to make major repairs with the replacement of wiring, the withdrawal of all communications, then in the next five to ten years you do not want to contact the masters again. Even if now you think that you do not need a dishwasher, and it is convenient to dry things on the balcony, it is not known whether your opinion will remain so after several years.

That is why it is better to immediately provide for the possibility of connecting household appliances to cold water and sewage, install several moisture-resistant sockets. Make one of the lower kitchen cabinets, located next to the sink, with a door and leave it for the built-in dishwasher. As for the dryer, you can either install it on a washing machine or think of a column cabinet.

Mistake 7: Corrugated linoleum

Surprisingly, most of the problems during use usually arise with floor coverings. The thing is that apartment owners most often choose them, focusing on the appearance, but they do not think about the operational properties and cleaning features.

A striking example of this is corrugated linoleum, which is presented in the store as not slippery and very durable. Perhaps this is so, however, dust and dirt are constantly clogged in the unevenness on its surface, which cannot be completely eliminated even if the floor is washed by hand. Therefore, linoleum gradually acquires not the best appearance, and with it the interior of the apartment deteriorates. The room seems unkempt, dirty and in need of cosmetic repairs. It is possible to clean the floor covering, but it will take a lot of time, effort, and still will not do without a steam generator.

Mistake 8: Doors with glass inserts

Light enters another room through glass inserts

Such doors look much "lighter" and more elegant than a solid canvas. However, there is one caveat: they are not appropriate in all rooms. For example, if you turn on the light in the hallway in the evening, then it will enter the bedroom through these glass inserts and will not bring any pleasure to the people who are there. It is especially annoying when, because of the light, it is not possible to put the child to bed.
