During its half-century history, the Volzhsky Automobile Plant has produced a huge number of various cars. And each of them has its own unique destiny. Moreover, if some models have become truly popular, then few people know about the existence of others. To your attention "ten" little-known concept cars of AvtoVAZ, to see which on the road is a great success.
1. VAZ-21106 GTI 2.0 16V
This car appeared in the last years of the twentieth century and was presented as a dynamic high-speed "sedan" of the GT class. In its design, units and systems were used that were not only modern, but also those that maximally adapted it to domestic roads. So, among the latter, one can distinguish: a 4-cylinder, 4-stroke engine with 4-valves per cylinder Opel C20XE, a five-speed Opel gearbox, model F18, 15-inch alloy wheels, as well as ZF power steering. All these technical solutions allowed the car to accelerate to 100 km / h in 9.5 seconds, and the maximum speed is 205 km / h, which at the end of the nineties was a very impressive indicator.
2. VAZ-21055 diesel
In parallel with the GTI, more practical models were developed at VAZ, for example, the "five" with a 53-horsepower vortex-chamber diesel engine VAZ-341. Among other innovations that were used in the modernized VAZ-2105 are a radiator of higher performance, a new cooling fan, and a powerful generator. All these decisions made it possible for the "five" to drive on a diesel engine in the same way as a classic one, but at the same time the fuel consumption is only 5.7 liters per 100 km. True, for all the perspective of the concept, the model has not been widely used in the domestic open spaces. But cars were exported in considerable quantities, which is why very few people remember it in our country.
3. VAZ-2101 with a rotary engine
"Kopeyka" actually from the very beginning of its appearance has become a truly popular car. Therefore, it is not surprising that they tried to modernize it. So, for example, having put on the VAZ-2101 an experimental rotary-piston engine with a power of 70 hp. and with a thrust incommensurate with the classical model. As a result, at that time "Kopeyka" was able to "fly" no worse than the then foreign cars. But it was decided not to bring the VAZ-2101 with a rotary engine to the mass consumer: they were available only to the special services, because they needed to develop high speeds in pursuit of criminals or for other purposes.
4. VAZ-2102E
Few people know that the first electric car was assembled at the VAZ several decades ago. We are talking about a small-batch batch of VAZ-2102E station wagons. So, the car was equipped with an electric motor with a power of 25 kW, which is equivalent to 35 hp. The engine is powered by a 380 kg nickel-zinc battery pack. Some characteristics of the unique concept are also known: the power reserve is 130 kilometers, the maximum speed is 87 km / h. Unfortunately, no one began to develop a promising concept at that time, and almost no one saw the released batch of ordinary people: according to the Novate.ru editors, some of the cars were used as part of the Togliatti postal service, several more cars were sent to the Ukrainian SSR, and only a few copies remained on the territory of the plant and were used for the internal needs of AvtoVAZ.
5. VAZ-21109 "Consul"
Few people know, but even a limousine was assembled at the VAZ. We are talking about the VAZ-21109 "Consul" model. And it was produced as follows: the original body was lengthened by 700 mm, an engine from a VAZ-2112 was installed, as well as alloy wheels and a pair of airbags. The interior was also equipped with maximum comfort: a leather sofa, a bar and a refrigerator, as well as a VCR with a TV, were placed in the back. And the passengers were separated from the driver by a soundproof partition.
6. Lada "Tarzan"
They upgraded to VAZ and Niva: the result was Tarzan. This car is the brainchild of a joint production of AvtoVAZ and the design company Decon. As a result of this work, a full-fledged frame SUV with aggregates from Niva and VAZ-2109 entered the conveyor. True, they limited themselves to small-scale production - according to Novate.ru, only a few hundred copies were collected.
7. VAZ-212180 "Handicap"
In 1996, specialists from PSA Bronto, which is a subsidiary of AvtoVAZ, took up their own modernization of the Niva. During the design of the concept, serious tuning was done: for example, the original body was increased in length by 300 mm, the roof superstructure was made of plastic, and a more comfortable rear sofa from the "eight" was installed in the cabin. In addition, for an additional fee, it was proposed to equip the car with a body kit, a hydraulic booster and an air conditioner. But the engine remained the same: a 1.7-liter unit with a carburetor, however, later it was replaced by an injection engine. All these constructive solutions sharply increased the demand for this car, but this did not affect the production volumes, and today few people will remember this car.
8. VAZ-2120 "Hope"
Another modification of the "Niva", and very original and promising. The result is a family monocab with an all-wheel drive platform from the original for seven seats, as well as having a roomy trunk. Initially, the specialists from Togliatti had extensive plans for this concept car: they wanted to assemble vans, pickups, and even offices on wheels from it. But all these ideas for Nadezhda did not come to fruition in the end due to very low sales, so in total, over eight years of release, a little more than seven thousand copies were collected.
9. Lada Natacha
The brainchilds of AvtoVAZ were also popular with foreign ateliers. So, once a Belgian tuning workshop decided to fill the gap of authors who did not build convertibles. So, on the basis of the VAZ-2108, Lada Natacha appeared, which was actively sold for export, for example, in Turkey, Egypt, Greece and Yugoslavia. The convertible also got to the Soviet Union, but this model was never officially sold in the domestic open spaces.
10. Lada 4x4 Convertible
Foreign tuning studios did not stop at one convertible based on the VAZ. Therefore, in 1989, one of the English workshops produced the first copy of the Lada 4x4 Cabriolet model. This car remains quite popular among car collectors today, especially considering the fact that it is very rare, because it was released in a small batch. But in the domestic open spaces it is almost impossible to see it, so meeting it on the road is a great success.
