Modern tires are manufactured commercially and in a myriad of variations. Therefore, when colored stripes are applied to parts of them in different quantities and combinations, this inevitably generates a number of opinions about their purpose. True, most of them do not correspond to reality, and their real meaning, as it turns out, has nothing to do with direct sale at all. However, this does not prevent buyers from using them for their own purposes.

Most of the inhabitants believe that the multi-colored stripes on the tread represent a kind of indicator of rubber wear. True, it is difficult to believe in the plausibility of this version, and all because this marking is very quickly erased. Other popular options for the purpose of color stripes on tires are the designation of defective batches or the differentiation of rubber types. However, in reality, they do not make any sense either for sellers or for drivers.

In fact, the colored stripes are applied to the tire at the factory at the production stage, or rather, during the production of tread blanks. They are made in a continuous long strip and it is just on it that markings are applied along the entire length. And only after that the continuous web is cut into separate pieces corresponding to the tread length of the finished tire. Then the cut tread blanks are sent to the tire assembly.

Thus, tread blanks, which differ in color, shape and size, are marked just so that assemblers know what size and model of tire will be obtained from a certain piece of blank. Accordingly, neither the nature of the stripes, nor their color has a direct practical meaning for the buyer or seller.

However, drivers still managed to find a use for these stripes on the tires. The thing is that there is a belief among motorists that the best solution would be to purchase all four wheels for a car from the same batch. This is where the strips come in handy - the same markings are applied to the rubber canvas, so the buyer will only have to find tires with identical colors and the number of stripes.
