The Desert Eagle pistol is one of the most popular types of short-barreled weapons today. The pistol is distinguished by a high firing range and enormous lethality thanks to the use of a 12.7 mm caliber. At the same time, not everyone knows that many interesting facts are associated with this weapon.
1. The pistol has a "brother"

The famous "Desert Eagle" was first produced by the Israel Military Industries arms company. In addition to the Eagle, the company developed and produced the Jericho 941 pistol, sometimes also called the Baby Eagle. This name stuck behind the cannon due to the fact that both eagles are terribly similar. The design, however, is where the similarities between the two pistols end.
2. Movie star

It will be difficult to find such a pistol in Hollywood that would shine in close-up in the frame more often than the Desert Eagle. Especially if we talk about the cult films: "Red Heat", "Big Jackpot", "The Blaster", "The Last Boy Scout", "The Eraser", "Double Impact" and many others. Desert Eagle is no less popular among video game creators.
3. Expensive toy

To call the Desert Eagle a "trinket" still does not turn my tongue. However, to call it a "workhorse" also, alas, will not work. First, the pistol is terribly expensive. It costs about 2 thousand dollars. Secondly, this weapon is very whimsical, requiring an extremely frugal attitude. For harsh military use, the Desert Eagle is not suitable.
4. Lack of ergonomics

Someone will say that the Desert Eagle has very poor ergonomics, and they will be right. This pistol is extremely inconvenient to use: large and heavy. And when the word “heavy” is spoken about the Desert Eagle, it really means that it is VERY heavy. The gun weighs 2 kg. For comparison, the equipped AK-74 weighs 3.6 kg! The pistol has a small magazine - only 7 rounds, in addition, it is also terribly loud.
5. Not suitable for the call

Despite the impressive appearance and popular image created by movies and computer games, the Desert Eagle pistol is not used by any army in the world. Professional military pistols do not favor this pistol, and no lethality with a firing range can save it in this respect. The only exceptions are the fighters of individual special units, when they periodically use the Eagles as an additional weapon.
6. "Submachine gun"

As strange as it sounds, the design of the Desert Eagle is much closer to assault rifles than pistols. For example, this pistol uses a characteristic rifle principle of automatic operation - by removing powder gases. By the way, the monstrous weight of the weapon is largely connected with this: the gas pipe is located directly under the barrel. Such a solution is a technical necessity. Otherwise, the "Eagle" would not be able to shoot monstrous cartridges of 12.7 mm caliber.
7. Young pistol

It may seem like the Desert Eagle has been on the market for a long time. However, by the standards of the famous firearms, the pistol is really quite young. It appeared in 1983 thanks to the efforts of engineers at Magnum Research.
