Today, there are virtually no peoples left completely cut off from modern civilization. There are rare exceptions to primitive societies isolated on islands or jungle thickets. However, in all other cases, even the most "hardcore" cases, as with northern or high-mountain shepherds, civilization was still able to reach out to them. True, there are some local specifics here.

In the south of Central Asia lies a mountain system called the Pamir. Today, this highland is a place of residence, including the Pamir Kyrgyz. This is a people of nomads, whose representatives are really ethnic Kyrgyz. The gradual settlement of the Pamirs by nomadic shepherds began in the 15th century. The second wave of resettlement happened already in the 20th century, after the Civil War in Russia, the establishment of Soviet power in many Central Asian states.

Many nomads, accustomed to living “according to the precepts of their ancestors,” did not accept either the new power or the new state, and therefore began to migrate to distant regions. This was due, among other things, to the fact that the Soviet government was creating a new agricultural system based on collective farms. However, entering a collective farm meant the expropriation of cattle, which, for obvious reasons, the nomads could not accept.

Today the Pamir Kyrgyz are an ethnic minority. Moreover, their number in the world is steadily falling. If in the 1970s there were more than 15 thousand nomads, today ethnographers number no more than 1.1 thousand. This is mainly due to the assimilation of nomadic Kyrgyz with other peoples, as well as the fact that many simply emigrate to other parts of the world, including Russia, European countries and Turkey.

The nomadic shepherds make an indelible impression on the people of "European civilization". However, one should not think that these people are completely cut off from civilization, poor or primitive. Among the shepherds, there are many very wealthy people, since they own whole herds that provide animal products. Therefore, next to some yurts it is quite possible to see even such a miracle of modern technology as a solar battery.

At the same time, the vast majority of nomadic shepherds buy tablets and smartphones for themselves, despite the fact that there is no connection in the mountains. Why are they doing that? In fact, everything is quite simple. First, nomads periodically travel to cities and villages. Secondly, nomadic Kirghiz use the modern telephone primarily for taking photographs, reading, and also for listening to music. Fortunately, a lot of it can be recorded on modern media.
