Even today, the majority of compatriots, including quite young ones, should remember such a Soviet Eastern as "The Elusive Avengers". The plot of the series of films told about the adventures of "red" teenagers during the Civil War in Russia. Everyone remembers how smartly and quickly they fired from revolvers? A natural question arises: is the revolver of the Nagant system generally capable of such miracles of rate of fire?
The revolver of the Nagant system is perhaps the most famous European revolver of the late 19th - first half of the 20th century. It was designed by the Belgian brothers Emil and Leon Nagan in 1878. Subsequently, the revolver was repeatedly improved, after 1886, only the youngest of the brothers, Leon, worked on the weapon, since Emil lost his sight and could no longer work. The most famous model of this weapon was created in 1895. As a result, the Nagant revolver sold around the world in a circulation of 2 million copies.
Nagant was produced not only in Belgium, but also in a number of other countries under license, including in the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union. Collected revolvers first in Tula, and then in Izhevsk since 1898. The last "Russian" revolver was assembled at the factory in 1945. The revolvers used a double action trigger and fired 7.62x38 mm Nagant ammunition. The optimal firing range was 50 meters. In later modifications of the revolver, the cartridges in the drum were not 6, but 7.
So what about the rate of fire? In fact, a revolver can actually be fired very quickly for a revolver. Moreover, the heroes of the "Elusive Avengers" shoot even more dashingly! If only because an experienced shooter can accurately release all 7 rounds at the target in just 15 seconds. True, there is a small "but" in the design of the revolver. This can only be done from the "officer" modification of the legendary weapon.
The fact is that even before the appearance of the 1886 model, the Belgian army wanted two modifications of the revolver: for the highest ranks of the army and for the lower ranks of the army. The revolver for the junior command and service personnel of the army had purposefully deteriorated combat characteristics due to the installation of a special part, which excluded the possibility of independent (automatic) cocking of the hammer after a shot. This was done to artificially lower the rate of fire in order to save ammunition. It was not possible to shoot so quickly from it.
